About this tour
A Japan private tour of 3 days covers the three places most first visits want and rarely fit in: Tokyo itself, Mount Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes, and the shrines of Nikko. Each is a full day, each returns to your own Tokyo hotel at night, and the same driver guide stays with you throughout. Hotel pickup is included every morning and the price covers the vehicle rather than each seat.
What you see over the three days
Day one is Tokyo: Senso-ji in Asakusa, the observation deck at Tokyo Skytree, lunch, the forest path into Meiji Shrine and Shibuya Crossing. Day two is the mountain: Lake Kawaguchi, the pagoda above Arakura Sengen Shrine, the spring ponds at Oshino Hakkai and the 5th Station at 2,300 metres. Day three runs north to Nikko: Toshogu with its carved Yomeimon Gate, the red Shinkyo Bridge, then up the Irohazaka hairpin road to Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji.
How the three days are paced
Day one is short on driving. Days two and three are each around six hours in the car, because the mountain and Nikko are both a long way out and there is no shorter route. Splitting them across separate days is the point, since doing either as half a day means seeing one stop and driving past the rest. Your English-speaking guide reorders the Fuji day around the cloud.

Right for a first trip to Japan with three days in Tokyo, and for anyone who wants the country's best known sights without moving hotels or booking trains. It works for older guests too, since the walking at each stop is short even though the days are long. The steps at Arakura Sengen and the grounds at Toshogu are the only demanding parts. Our drivers hold a Japan Class 2 commercial passenger licence, and your English-speaking guide is the same person driving the car.
Best time for these three days
Winter gives the clearest Fuji of the year and a quiet Nikko, though the road to the 5th Station closes with snow and we run an alternative. Late October and November bring colour to both Nikko and the lakes and are the strongest all round window. April is blossom season everywhere and the busiest. Summer is the weakest for mountain views.
