Secondhand luxury shopping in Ginza is one of the best ways to find a Hermès, Chanel, or Louis Vuitton piece in Tokyo without paying boutique prices. Ginza is famous for its flagship stores, but the side streets around Ginza Station also hold some of Japan's biggest brand resale shops. They sell used and vintage designer bags, watches, jewelry, and clothing, and most of them are set up for overseas visitors. This guide covers the six stores worth your time, where to find them, and what to know about tax-free shopping before you go.

The best secondhand luxury stores in Ginza at a glance

If you only have an afternoon, here is the short answer:

  1. BRAND OFF Ginza: four floors of bags, watches, and jewelry, with a full Hermès floor, plus a clothing annex nearby.

  2. KOMEHYO GINZA: a large resale chain's most upscale Tokyo store, now with a bigger designer clothing floor.

  3. ALLU Ginza: vintage Chanel and Hermès bags, Rolex watches, and an apparel floor.

  4. RINKAN Ginza bag: bags and fine jewelry right by the Ginza 4-chome crossing.

  5. Daikokuya Ginza: a long-running pawn and resale chain with English-speaking staff listed for this branch.

  6. GINZA RASIN: the specialist if you are after a pre-owned luxury watch.

All six are within walking distance of each other. BRAND OFF, ALLU, and RINKAN are within a few minutes of Ginza Station, so you can see three stores in about an hour.

Thrift store or brand resale shop?

Many travelers search for thrift stores in Ginza, but that is not quite what you will find. In Japan, the shops in this guide are called brand reuse or brand resale stores. They buy designer items from owners, check and clean them, and sell them on with a price tag that reflects the brand and condition. You will not find bargain bins here. You will find real Birkins, Kelly bags, Chanel flap bags, Cartier jewelry, and Rolex watches, often in better condition than you would expect.

If you want cheap secondhand clothing, neighborhoods like Shimokitazawa and Koenji are better known for that. Ginza is the place for used luxury.

BRAND OFF Ginza

BRAND OFF is a resale company from Kanazawa, and its Ginza Main Store sits on Miyuki-dori, a short walk from Ginza Station. The store takes up four floors. The 1st floor has bags and accessories, the 2nd floor has bags, watches, and jewelry, and the 3rd floor is given over to Hermès bags. The official English store page says tax-free shopping is available with your passport.

In April 2025 the company opened BRAND OFF GINZA ANNEX a few blocks away. The annex focuses on designer clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories, so it is the one to visit if you are looking for a Chanel jacket or a pair of designer sneakers.

KOMEHYO GINZA

KOMEHYO is one of Japan's best-known names in luxury resale, and the company calls its Ginza branch its most upscale store. It opened in January 2023 near Ginza-itchome Station and stocks jewelry, watches, bags, and designer clothing. On September 1, 2026, the store opened a new 4th floor for clothing, growing that section to about 2,300 items, with brands like Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Hermès, Gucci, Dior, Prada, and Loro Piana.

KOMEHYO is a good pick if you want a wide choice in one place. Its stock is listed online, and you can ask to have items from other KOMEHYO stores sent to Ginza so you can see them in person. The store accepts major credit cards along with Alipay, WeChat Pay, and Union Pay, and tax-free shopping is listed on its store page.

ALLU Ginza

ALLU opened its Ginza street-front store in 2016 and has built a following among vintage collectors. Each floor has its own focus. The 1st floor has bags from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and others, plus jewelry from brands like Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. The 2nd floor is mostly Rolex, the 3rd floor is all Hermès, from older Birkins and Kellys to recent pieces, and the 4th floor has clothing and shoes, including past-season items and collaborations you will not find in regular boutiques.

ALLU is on the same block as the BRAND OFF annex, so it is easy to visit both. Note that the store asks visitors not to livestream or sell from inside the shop.

RINKAN Ginza bag

RINKAN's Ginza bag store is in the basement of a building just off the Ginza 4-chome crossing, next to the TASAKI jewelry store. It carries bags from Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Celine, and Prada, along with jewelry from Cartier, Tiffany, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bulgari. The company says the store is a tax-free shop. RINKAN also runs a separate silver store on the 2nd floor of the same building.

The building name is a little confusing. The Daikokuya resale store covered below is a separate shop in 2-chome.

Daikokuya Ginza

Daikokuya started as a pawnshop in 1947 and now runs stores across Japan. Its Ginza branch is on the 1st floor of a building on Sotobori-dori, toward the Yurakucho end of Ginza. Here you can buy brand bags, small leather goods, jewelry, watches, and fashion accessories. The company lists this branch as having English-speaking staff, although it notes that they are not always on the floor. It is a tax-free store.

GINZA RASIN for pre-owned watches

If a watch is on your list, head to the south end of Ginza near Shimbashi. GINZA RASIN sells mainly pre-owned watches from Patek Philippe, Rolex, Franck Muller, Cartier, and others. The main store handles brands like Patek Philippe, Omega, TAG Heuer, and Franck Muller, while Rolex is sold at its Ginza Chuo-Dori store a short walk away at 8-9-17 Ginza. The company says it has staff who speak English and Chinese, and it will adjust a bracelet to your size in the store at no charge. Brand-new Rolex watches are not eligible for tax exemption.

Tax-free shopping changed on November 1, 2026

Japan changed how tax-free shopping works for visitors. For purchases made on or after November 1, 2026, you pay the full price, including the 10% consumption tax, at the store. You get the tax back later, after customs confirms at the airport or seaport that you are taking the goods out of Japan.

Here is how it works now:

  • Spend at least ¥5,000 before tax at one store on the same day to qualify, and bring your passport.

  • Keep the goods with you. Before you check your bags on the way home, scan your passport at a tax-free kiosk in the departure lobby. This has to be done within 90 days of purchase.

  • If the screen shows green, you are done. If it shows red, take your purchases to the customs counter for a check.

  • Keep every item from each receipt together. If one item from a receipt is missing, nothing on that receipt qualifies.

  • For an item priced at ¥1 million or more before tax, customs may ask to see a certificate or warranty, so keep the paperwork that comes with it.

How you get the money back depends on the store. Options include a bank transfer, a refund to your credit card, an app, or cash at the port. Ask the store which method it uses when you pay.

How to shop secondhand designer goods with confidence

Buying used luxury in Japan has a strong reputation for a reason. Resale shops in Japan must hold a secondhand dealer license from the local Public Safety Commission, and the bigger chains check items before they go on sale. A few habits still help:

  • Look at the condition rank on the tag and ask staff what it means for that piece. Small marks on corners and handles are common on vintage bags.

  • Ask what comes with the item, such as a box, dust bag, receipt, or warranty card. These affect the price and help if you ever resell it.

  • Check stock online before you go. KOMEHYO and BRAND OFF can order items from other stores, and ALLU can bring online stock to its Ginza shop for you to see.

  • Bring your passport and keep every receipt. Some stores, such as GINZA RASIN, only accept a credit card in the same name as your passport for tax-free purchases.

  • Compare a few stores. BRAND OFF, ALLU, and RINKAN are so close together that it costs you very little time.

Best time to shop in Ginza

Most of these stores open at 11:00, and RINKAN opens at 12:00. Weekday mornings are the calmest time to try on bags and ask questions. On Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, Chuo-dori is closed to cars and becomes a pedestrian street from noon. It runs until 18:00 from April to September and until 17:00 from October to March, and it can be canceled in bad weather.

Weekends are livelier but busier inside the shops, so if you are serious about a big purchase, go on a weekday and save the weekend for walking.

A simple Ginza resale route

Start at KOMEHYO GINZA near Ginza-itchome Station, then walk south along Chuo-dori to RINKAN at the 4-chome crossing. Cross to Miyuki-dori for BRAND OFF, then finish at ALLU and the BRAND OFF annex, which share the same block. Add Daikokuya if you are coming from Yurakucho, and GINZA RASIN if you are heading toward Shimbashi. Leave room for lunch, since luxury shopping in Ginza takes longer than you think once you start comparing prices and trying things on.

Planning your visit

Ginza is easy to reach by subway, but carrying a few shopping bags across the city at the end of the day is less fun. Our Tokyo and Mt. Fuji 2-day private tour already includes time in Ginza on day one, with a driver guide from your hotel door. The Tokyo temples and gardens private tour visits Hama-rikyu, a garden a short drive from Ginza, so it pairs well with an evening of shopping. To see what a full day with a car and driver costs, read our Tokyo private day tour cost guide.
